Painter and print maker Eva Mia Sjölin is back at The Line! Since she last showed with us some 5 years ago she has exhibited all over the world including in Japan, Norway, Bulgaria and Denmark. And there have been many shows in Sweden, as would be expected. Her enigmatic mystical landscapes are evocative of a half remembered world, places both familiar yet different - they are sources for dreaming and for story telling. Her wire and net birds charm, their minimal detailing doing nothing to detract from their character and humour.
For this exhibition we are delighted that she brings along a colleague from her days at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Stockholm, Hjördis Haack from Denmark, of whom she writes:
"This is the first time just we two will exhibit together since we met 1981. Studying on the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Stockholm we were selected to join a group designing and making the scenery for “The tales of Hoffman” by J. Offenbach. Since then we have been close friends and have kept regular contact though we live in different countries. We are looking forward to this exhibition and to visiting Scotland and to come to The Line Gallery together."
Hjordis - I will show a series of oil paintings showing different landscapes and views from my travels. Small realistic paintings of nature with a conceptual angle, often with unpainted parts of the linen – like small snapshots.
Eva-Mia will bring bird sculptures in net and digital art prints - Each of my birds tries to find their own characteristic of some human personality. In my art prints I put different pieces from my photos together to a new vision of reality.
Do come along and join is in celebrating the opening of this exhibition from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm on Saturday March 11th. Both artists will be present, and happy to speak about their work. The exhibition will continue until April 4th.
